I’ve been working on writing a book. I was doing pretty well at writing daily, and then last week I kind of stalled. I’ll write a bit after this. It’s the finishing that’s the problem. I’m not a good finisher in most cases, but in the case of writing a book, I think the final scenes should be just as fun to write as other scenes… and if they’re boring to write, it probably means that they’ll be boring to read. Unfortunately, I think it’ll take a lot more practice to stop being boring when I write.
One of my other domains got hacked and my hosting was shut down for a couple of days. So welcome back website! I learned that I don’t really know anything about websites or website security, but it seems like the hackers got in through an old theme or old plugin, so now I know to be on the lookout for themes or plugins that need to be updated, or that haven’t been updated in a long time.
I switched from a Polar Loop for a FitBit Charge HR last month, and I am not regretting it. We have a group of work folks with them so we can all compare. This week I have to try and keep up with a coworker who is at Disney World for three days though, so I think I’ll fall out of the lead, but I’m trying to keep up!
I’ve been trying to read Stephen King’s Dark Tower series, but I keep putting it down and picking up 10 other books before I pick it back up again. It’s not that I don’t like it–I can tell that he is good at keeping the action going so you don’t want to put it down while you’re reading. I think I just don’t identify enough with any of the characters to really care about what happens to them once I’ve put the book down. But, I always assumed I’d hate Stephen King since I don’t like horror, so it’s surprising to see how this series at least is really fantasy and barely horror at all. It makes me wonder if I don’t understand what the genre of horror really encompasses.
Anyway, my new year’s resolution was to not buy any books for a year–just to read what I already have piled up, or borrow from friends / the library. It’s been harder than I thought. I haven’t been to the library because I’ve had plenty of other things to read, but I spent a lot of my time re-reading old favorites instead of reading the piled-up books that I’ve been meaning to get to.
I have been pretty successful at reading a bunch of Jane Austen novels, since those are available on Amazon.com as e-books for free. I still like North & South the best. (Saw the mini-series over the holidays, then read the book.)
Any suggestions of good books available for free on Kindle?
