Where's the accounting

For a blog supposedly written by an accountant, I haven’t talked much about accounting recently, have I?

Well, I work in public accounting, and we have a busy season that begins shortly after Christmas. Right now, we’re in a little slow point (although I am happy that I got to go on a couple of preliminary audits.)

So, once January gets going, I’m sure I’ll be so busy with auditing that I won’t be able to think of anything else to talk about!

My first inventory count is on December 30th, so we can all look forward to that ;). An inventory count has to be done when all production for 2010 is done, but production for 2011 has not begun. That provides a pretty narrow window, especially at manufacturers who like to have production going 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Manufacturing companies do a count themselves, and then we pop by and do some test counts of a few items. Open a few boxes and make sure that they’re packed with digital camera parts, not bricks.

I’ve never been on an inventory count before, so it’ll be a brand new experience for me. Not supposed to be the most exciting thing in the world, but I’m sure I’ll learn something interesting from it!
